Welcome to the 21st Annual Manitou Sprint Triathlon
Sunday June 13, 2010
The Manitou Triathlon has been in existence since 1990, and has truly become one of the 'must-do' races of any Minnesota Triathlete. Being a relatively 'easy' course early in the year, it's often chosen by rookie triathletes as their first race. But the Midwest's elite athletes also like the course because "it's just plain fast".
It's not quite as fast of this video preview--but you get the idea!
Several of the area's professional and top amateur triathletes come to test their early season fitness.
Case in point:
- Minnesota's top male triathlete David Thompson has won the race 3 times (04, 05, 06)
- Minnesota's top female triathlete Cathy Yndestad has won the race 4 times (05, 06, 07, 09)
- Who could forget the classic "Iron-War" battle in 2001 between young superstars Robert Gilles and Scott Myers; neck and neck the whole race with Gilles running a 15:47 5K to Myers 15:48.
- One time pro triathlete and Gopher swimmer Emily Deppe (3 time winner) obliterating all the women and shocking most of the elite guys by placing 10th overall with a course record 1:06:32.
- In 2003 Madison Wisconsin based pro Will Smith (the triathlete not the actor) came out and won the race just 50 seconds ahead of former Minnesota based pro Jared Berg.
- Long time Colorado based triathlete stud and sub 9 hour Ironman Tim Hola finishing 5th at Manitou 3 weeks after an overall win at the pretigious Gulf Coast Half Ironman in 2003; exemplifying Manitou's competitive field.
- Rising star and new pro-card holder Devon Palmer's course record of 1:00:04 in 2009.
So come join us at the 21st Annual Manitou Triathlon. Test your early season fitness against some of the regions best triathletes, or just have fun, grab a hot dog and have a chance at winning over $5,000 worth of giveaways. You'll be glad you came.
